Athlete Spotlight
shaneese lamons
Shaneese La Mons is a class of 2019 sprinter with Smyrna High School’s track and field program in Delaware. Although she tried basketball as her first organized sport, track quickly took over as her love.
Shaneese has been running competitively for four years. Her athletic goals are set high. She wants to be a multiple conference and state title winner in her team relays and individual events. Shaneese is just as strong in the classroom as she is on the track. She is an honors student carrying a 4.0 gpa.
She was recently accepted in the National Honor Society. She credits her father as her biggest supporter saying, “He’s always taking me to practice and then late nights at the gym. He helps me critique my form and motivates me to be my very best!”
The legendary Florence Joyner and Sanya Richards-Ross are her track role models. Joyner set world records in 1988 in the 100- and 200-meter events. These records still stand to this day. Her rigorous training techniques are credited for her success. Richards-Ross had great track career winning Olympic gold in the 4×400 meters relay at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2012 Summer Olympics. She was the best 400m runner in the world for a decade, ranking No. 1 in the world from 2005-2009 and again in 2012. Although they are her role models, Shaneese has the drive and focus to hopefully one day surpass them in the record books.
