Mario Herrera is a class of 2021 offensive and defensive lineman from West Valley High School in Yakima, Washington. Mario is one of the most talented players in the Pacific Northwest.
Mario is a dominant offensive tackle, possessing power and great feet. He opens massive holes on the ground for the backs to run. Recruiters are impressed with is lateral movement and strong hands. Mario is also stout in pass protection, not giving up any sacks on the year. Mario was recognized as an All-FBU/TOP Gun lineman. Mario became interested in football at an early age. He began watching football at age 4 with his family and instantly fell in love with the game. At age 6, Mario began with flag football. Two years later he was able to play grid kids (pop warner). Mario has earned many accolades but he still has the drive to compete. He has set the bar high with his goals. “I want to win multiple state championships and earn all-conference, all-state and lineman of the year awards,” says Mario.
Mario’s parents and grandmother are his biggest supporters. “They always encourage and push me to stay focused and to keep improving,” says Mario. “My mother helps me stay on top of my academics and pushes me to do my best. My father helps me with my work outs, athletics, and helps me stay focused. My grandmother always encourages me and prays for me.” On the field, Mario looks up to Larry Fitzgerald and JJ Watt. “I look up to Larry Fitzgerald and JJ Watt because they are hard workers and professionals on and off the field. I think they are excellent role models,” says Mario. He models his game after Joe Thomas and Anthony Munoz because they are “technically sound and have high football IQ’s.”
Mario’s dream is to earn an athletic/academic scholarship and have a chance to play in the NFL. “Playing in the NFL would be an honor and blessing. I would play for any team that would give me a chance to play my heart out." Mario is working hard this off-season. He is training with his team and improving his strength and speed. Mario has already been contacted by the likes of UCLA, Williams College, University of Redlands and more. We are happy to assist him in his recruiting journey and help him catch the eye of recruiting coordinators across the country!
