Hi, my name is Gaby Mayorca. I am a high school student athlete born and raised in Miami FL. I’ve been in love with this sport since I was 8. I learned the game when I was that age and I used to go to the courts and watch the “adults” or “big guys” play and I learned from that and than I started practicing and training until I got to their level to play with them in the courts and I achieved it. Many people doubted me which made me want to work even harder and than in middle school I got into the varsity team from 6th grade-8th grade, I wasn’t the best but I kept on working until my coach noticed how good I was and how hard I worked and so by 8th grade I was a starter and one of the best players in the school and I earned the “most improved” award. I know it’s no MVP or something even bigger but it meant a whole lot to me. Than I started high school, made it to the jv basketball team and I was selected as team captain and starter of the team leading the team to have the most wins in school history. Afterwards in sophomore year I was pushed up to varsity and I wasn’t a starter so I had to keep on working and by junior year I earned more and more minutes. But that didn’t satisfy my and so now for my senior year I am going to be a starter and I’m training nonstop. But at the end of the day, I don’t look at this as “ugh I have to go train” or “ugh I have to go to practice” I look at this as my passion and something I love more than anything.
