Newark Charter High School
Sports Science, Health Science
I'm Ryan Simpson, a rising junior at Newark Charter High School in Delaware. In 9th grade, I decided to run Indoor Track to stay in shape for soccer but after my first race, I instantly became a runner who played soccer to stay in shape. My passion for track was sparked immediately and it's stronger than ever. Track and Field is really personal to me. My grandfather, Hal Nichter, ran for Villanova University in the 1960s, and from him, there have been a lot of competitive runners . Now I get to appreciate and be part of his legacy which means a lot to me. His success in college encourages me to study the sport more and more. I work as hard on my own, off the track and in the weight room as I do in season and in school. I know I can't do one without the other. I am proud of the teammate, student and family member that I am because track wouldn't really mean as much if I wasn't. I have a lot of goals like dropping my 200m time as low as possible and maybe even trying out the 800m if my coach thinks it's a good idea. However, my biggest goals are simple right now. I want to break into the 40s in the 400m (as soon as possible), I want to earn a scholarship so that I can keep running at the next level and I want to graduate high school and college with great memories of school and track to look back on when it's all over.
